Structural Building Surveyor

Job description

This position is for a full-time structural building surveyor. As a structural building surveyor for Brad Young & Associates, Inc. you will travel to job sites throughout the United States and document the existing structural systems of buildings.

This can be a remote work position assuming the candidate lives near a major airport

Responsibilities will include:

  • being able to identify and document common building materials (such as concrete, masonry, wood, and steel) within the buildings structural system

  • being able to identify and document shearwalls, bearing walls, identify structural and non-structural framing

  • document measured sizes and spacing of framing

  • being able to identify and document broken structure, damaged framing, failing framing, etc.

  • document the structural system of the building by the use of hand sketches

  • video and photograph the existing building structure

  • coordinate site surveys with building owners and leasing agents

Job Qualifications

  • Either

    • a 4-year college degree in engineering or construction management

      and/or

    • progressive hands-on construction experience with retail and commercial buildings

Essential Knowledge/Skills

  • The candidate will need to be able to physically move agilely around job sites safely, climb in attics, climb onto roofs, carry ladders, work on ladders, etc.

  • Knowledge of various lateral load resisting systems and materials (i.e., wood shearwalls, steel moment frames, steel braced frames, CMU bearing/shearwalls, concrete tiltup construction, etc.)

  • Knowledge of various vertical load resisting systems and materials (i.e., wood, steel, and concrete floor and roof framing)

  • The candidate needs to have the skillset and experience with buildings as described above, but you will also be trained and work closely with other experienced surveyors and engineers from our company.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work Week Description

Since surveying doesn’t stick to a predictable number of hours of work each day/week by nature, the travel workweek will be an average of 4 days long to account for the fluctuations in hours worked on surveys each day. The fifth day will be used, if needed, to organize your survey notes and information and get everything uploaded to our servers. This work can also be done entirely or partially during the 4 workday week so the fifth day is a day off or at least a short day, at your option.

Compensation

  • $65,000+.  Salary for this position is based on the individual’s experience and any other intangibles they bring to the position.
